This is not only interesting footage for historical purposes, but powerful testimony to what a groundbreaking car the E39 5-Series, V8 Bimmer was when it first hit the streets in 1997. The 0-60 in 5.6 seconds is still pretty fast by today's standards. Back when MotorTrend recorded this footage, the BMW 540i bested the Z28 Corvette.
